Many eco-conscious Californians love solar power. Few can afford it. Never mind that solar panels on a home will eventually pay for themselves by slashing the electricity bill. In a state where the median home price now stands at $586,000, many families stretch their budgets to the breaking point just to cover the mortgage.
Environmentally supportive has to be more than just a slogan. Environmentally supportive needs public support -- especially when it comes to the energy crisis. Green Foot Forward believes in solar power and strongly supports the work of Habitat for Humanity. Help us help Habitat for Humanity and we'll DONATE a portion of our profits from every ECO DECK sold to Habitat for Humanity.
Solar Cells Much Smaller Than This: o Engineers have constructed a solar array smaller than a dime out of 20 solar cells, each cell tinier than a quarter of this lowercase "o."
The mini photoelectric device only generates seven volts of electricity. But that could be enough to power the kind of microsensors military planners imagine will...
Solar Sailor Sun Sails To Be Fitted to Chinese Cargo Ships At least that is what the media releases are saying. Late last month, the Australian Solar Sailor company announced they’d signed a deal with China's biggest shipping line, COSCO, to fit some of their jumbo jet sized solar-powered sails to a tanker and bulk carrier. The 30 metre long sails, festooned in photovoltaic panels are expected to catch enough wind to reduce fuel costs by between 20% and 40%, whilst those PV cells will provide the ships with 5% of their electricity.
Rising Sun of Solar Power Solar Power is becoming more prominent all the time. The technologies are improving by the day as it the range of available products, allowing those of us who care about the planet's future to make the biggest impact of all...
San Francisco, CA, USA: Suntech Maximizes Solar Energy at Caltech Suntech Power has completed a 238 kWp solar array for the California Institute of Technology. The system was designed and installed by Suntech Energy Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd., and utilized an innovative space frame that accommodated more modules...
Today's solar systems for solar heating are highly efficient, and easy to install. Installing solar panels to capture the energy of the sun is one of the best ways to improve your home value. The initial output is expensive, true, but the payoff is long lasting. Solar systems pay for themselves in about half their lifetime. If you are installing for yourself, plan to stay in your home for a long time to get the best advantage. While the costs are being depreciated over time, the system itself adds to your home value. As a plus, you have satisfaction that you are using a clean, non-polluting system that does not use up limited resources.
What is Thin-Film Solar? Thin-film solar technologies often use non-silicon semiconductor materials including copper, indium, gallium and selenium (CIGS) to create photovoltaic the expensive and often sparse silicon, the cells are cheaper in terms of materials costs. The non-silicon materials can also be printed on flexible or light substances, which can create new applications for solar.
